Nazarí CERAMICS
BACKSTORY
Granada is one of our favorite cities and a place we love to visit. It’s also the home to some of the most beautiful ceramics you can imagine. Granada ceramics date back over five centuries and has its roots in the Nazrid dynasty. Today they’re best recognized by their traditional motifs of branches, flowers, birds and most notably, the pomegranate – but in the very beginning Granada ceramics only had geometric drawings because local artisans where not allowed to draw living things. The Nazarí collection was inspired by these early ideals.
THE TRADITIONAL WAY
At Sandon we source products from all over the world, but as a Spanish company we strive to collaborate with local craftsmen, and support age old traditions.
Keeping with tradition, our Nazarí ceramics were first moulded in clay, dried and fired in a kiln. Each piece was then applied a white coat for insulation and shine, before being painted and fired one last time.
No two pieces are identical as all were painted by hand.
Pigments are created by hand and recipes are often passed down through generations. Every artisan has their own secret recipe, giving each piece a personal touch.
Our ceramics are created by Enrique G. We feel honored to have collaborated with him on this collection.
